Secondary Team

MS. JENNIE

Secondary Principal

My name is Ms. Jennie Major and I am the Upper Primary and Secondary Principal at EMS Khor. I was born in Canada and raised in the United States. I have been an educator since 2001. During my career I have had the opportunity to teach most subjects. My students have ranged in ages from 3 years old to 70 years old. I have been in school administration since 2014.  I received my Certificate of International School Leadership in 2016 and my second Master’s Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Multidisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Leadership.

In 2012, I joined the EMS family and have been privileged to be part of the EMS, Khor community since 2014. I am blessed to be  part of a school where the teachers and the parents work together in such a close partnership. I believe that all children have a love for learning; it is our job as educators to figure out what they love to learn.

MR. TREVOR

Secondary Social Studies & Head of Humanities Department

I was raised in a small farming community in the middle of the USA. I graduated from Colorado State University with a BA in Diplomatic History and Political Science. I graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a Master’s degree in Military Studies and Diplomacy as well as a Graduate Degree in Secondary Education. My area of expertise is in U.S. foreign relations in the Middle East and Latin America. I have been working at EMS Al Khor since 2014 and I presently teach IGCSE and AS level Global Perspectives, Sociology, and AS Psychology. In addition, I am the debate coach for the Secondary and Preparatory teams at Qatar Debate competitions.

When I teach, I focus on developing habits that increase a student’s ability to learn in a general sense. I want students to have skills that make them unafraid of trying to learn. I want students to reach a point where they are not intimidated by a subject or by a piece of writing. Rather, I want students to freely take notice of things in the world around them, to be able to calmly consider, and if possible, to apply the skills they have learned to deeply explore the human phenomena of the world. I see this as both a vocation and as the best thing that I can offer the world. There are two reasons why I love working at the English Modern School Al Khor. First, my energetic and professional colleagues inspire me on a daily basis. Secondly, due to our small class sizes our campus has a family feel. The students are kind to one another, they are welcoming to new students, and the rapport between students and teachers is very respectful.
