School Leadership

MR. JEAN CLAUDE CHALOUHI

Superintendent

I believe that an effective school leader’s role is to empower, inspire and motivate others. This type of leadership can promote the changes needed to prepare learners for their future achievements. Strong collaboration and trust between parents, students, teachers and leaders is the foundation to help learners achieve high academic standards and help them to become life-long learners and active citizens.

I believe in being an effective leader by raising expectations for students, staff members and the entire school community based on a common vision which inspires and motivates all the stakeholders. This we can achieve by working in partnership with all and having an open and continuous communication to inform and support student learning.

I believe ensuring continuous professional growth for all by providing continuous professional development based on the best practices which focus on improving learning for every child ensuring that every child has the right to learn and grow and be successful by allowing professionals to work together in order to redesign and change as we work with individuals and make a difference.

MS. JOAN MARIE LARTER

Head of School

I am pleased to introduce myself to new parents and to reacquaint myself to returning families. My name is Joan Marie Larter and I have been Head of School at EMS, Khor since 2016. I am Canadian and I have worked as an educator in 6 countries. I have been an administrator in the Middle East since 2008. Prior to joining the Khor team, I was Primary Principal at the EMS Doha campus for four years. Each of these wonderful educational opportunities has offered very different cultural insights. I feel these experiences have allowed me to be more open-minded and have a better understanding of people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, both professionally and socially.

I am excited to be returning to EMS Khor and look forward to another successful year, working with our dynamic administrative team and dedicated, diligent teachers to ensure your children get the best educational experiences possible.

Thank-you for your continued support and collaboration.

MS. SELINA COLLINS

ECE/Lower Primary Principal

I came to Qatar in 2012 from New York City (USA) to pursue a career in international education, and nine years later and now with two beautiful children Hudson 6 and Sage 8, I am still here loving Qatar.  It has been an honor to become a part of the Khor family and community. I was previously Director of Curriculum and Professional Development at the EMS Doha campus, supporting the three EMS campuses. Therefore, EMS Khor is already somewhat familiar to me, but I’m looking forward to working more closely with staff, learners and parents. Throughout my 20-year career in education, I have held various roles within schools: Special Education teacher, Literacy Coach, Head of Teaching and Learning, Head of Learning Support & Inclusion and Vice Principal. I have a Masters degree in Teaching Students with Additional Needs and Certification in School Building Leadership from Pace University in New York City.

I am so thankful to have the opportunity to bring my experience to this wonderful community. I look forward to exploring and developing ideas with the talented and dedicated teaching team at EMS Khor.  I believe wholeheartedly that every learner deserves a high-quality education which only happens in a joyful school where curiosity is encouraged and families work together for the children’s best interests. With that in mind, I will be calling on all faculty, staff, and parents to work collaboratively this year to best serve our learners.

During my career I have had the opportunity to teach most subjects. My students have ranged in ages from 3 years old to 70 years old. I have been in school administration since 2014.  I received my Certificate of International School Leadership in 2016 and my second Master’s Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Multidisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Leadership.

In 2012, I joined the EMS family and have been privileged to be part of the EMS, Khor community since 2014. I am blessed to be  part of a school where the teachers and the parents work together in such a close partnership. MS. WILMA DAALMAN

Curriculum Coordinator

My name is Ms. Wilma Daalman and I am the Teaching and Learning Coordinator at EMS Al Khor. I am from The Netherlands and have been working in education for 25 years, in Syria, China and Qatar. I worked at the EMS Campus in Doha from 2012 until 2015 and this is my fifth year at Al Khor.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and a Masters Degree from the State University of New York.

I try to promote positive learning, make children enthusiastic about learning and prepare them to become lifelong learners. I believe that differentiated instruction is a way to reach all learners because some children need adjusted strategies or learning instructions. With this in mind, I assist teachers with their planning and classroom instructions.

I am looking forward to another exciting year with lots of learning.

MR. HAZEM OUF

Arabic Coordinator

Hello, I am Mr. Hazem, the Arabic Coordinator at the English Modern School Khor.  I have been working in education since 2001 and I am originally from Egypt. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies and completed my Master’s degree in International Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo in 2018. Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Technology.

My teaching experience includes working in UAE and Kuwait where I taught students in middle school to Grade 12, as well as adults. My areas of expertise include teaching Arabic conversation skills, Cambridge IGCSE, and AS Level Arabic and Islamic studies. It gives me immense pleasure to share my previous teaching experiences with the fantastic family at EMS Khor.

My credentials also include being an accredited examiner from Cambridge, and I have presented several books on supporting curricula. Two of the books I drafted for the IGCSE curriculum are currently taught in most international schools that teach the British curriculum. The Ministry of Education in Qatar has verified both of these books as well.

My goal is to make education more fun and enjoyable to our learners, incorporating interactive activities and technology into my lessons. I believe that engaging students in their learning not only helps them retain information better, but also instills a love for learning that will benefit them in their future endeavors. I am excited to work with the learners at EMS Khor and contribute to their overall academic and personal growth. I am confident that together, we can create a positive and supportive learning environment where every child feels empowered and motivated to reach their full potential. I look forward to the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the learners at EMS Khor.
