21st Century Leader

My name is Byron Jay E. Balagon, a Filipino citizen working in English Modern School for eight years, I was brought up in a colourful multicultural environment. I hold a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English and a Master’s of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies at SUNY Buffalo, New York USA. I had 3 years teaching in the Philippines and an international career in educational services before I made the decision to work as a full time teacher. Working in a diverse and multicultural school in the UAE formed the foundation of my teaching career before I moved to Qatar to teach in EMSW. I am happy to be part of the EMSW community, a school that embraces diversity, multiculturalism and bilingualism.

In my years of teaching I have never stopped learning and always believe in teachers’ model of lifelong learning to students, including demonstrating how to develop key skills alongside academic achievement. As such, my holistic approach to education promotes wellbeing and positive mental health and I strive to empower children to embrace their true authentic self. In my job as an educator and 21st Century Coordinator, it is key for me to recognize each child and their personality, strengths and weaknesses.

Respect is always a common ground and it is important that my students and staff feel safe in an encouraging, stimulating and challenging learning environment, which I foster permanently.
