Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) Program
As a part of an ongoing effort to enhance the educational experience for our students, English Modern School has started a pilot of a “Bring Your Own Technology” (BYOT) program.
Students will be encouraged to bring in a laptop or a tablet (preferably with a keyboard) for the sole purpose of educational use.
The goal of the program is to increase access to technology, which will allow teachers to take advantage of tools to help students learn. A BYOT program allows students a seamless learning experience between home and school. Personal devices will allow students greater opportunities for personalized learning, increased familiarity with technology, the ability to differentiate their choice of tools, responsibility for learning and learning tools, and increased opportunity to learn and adopt responsible use of technology.
Students and parents must sign the handbook and network agreements, prior to being able to participate in the BYOT program. Currently the program is only for year 12 students.
Participation in the program is encouraged but optional. Although the school will take measures to ensure the success and safety of students and equipment, students are ultimately responsible for any devices brought to campus. School provided resources will still be available for students not participating in this program. These shared devices are limited in number and will not be available for student use at home.
