SECONDARY HOUSE INTRODUCTION

PASTORAL CARE & STUDENT WELL BEING RATIONALE

The EMS Doha House Programme has been put in place to ensure the continued development of our students in line with our Vision and Mission statements. 2019-2020 saw EMS Doha abolish the ESLRs and align our school with the Cambridge Learner Attributes (CLAs) and the Qatar National Vision (QNV) to “…transform Qatar into an advanced society capable of achieving sustainable development by 2030.”

The Cambridge Learner Attributes are:

  • Confident
  • Responsible
  • Reflective
  • Innovative
  • Engaged

Qatar National Vision to “…transform Qatar into an advanced society capable of achieving sustainable development by 2030.”

The CLAs in conjunction with the QNV 2030 forms the foundation for how EMS Doha believes all students can successfully achieve our Vision and Mission statements moving into the next decade.  Our House System and Student Leadership Programme have been developed to build on the CLAs & QNV values set forth and will allow our House System and Student Leadership programme to blend these ideologies together.  By weaving our Pastoral care philosophy throughout the school, we will ensure that our Pastoral objectives are met.

These are:

  • Reflect the mission objectives of EMS Doha.
  • Developing a sense of pride and belonging through challenge, academia and positive competitiveness
  • Ensuring a transparent, clear efficient process of communicating with the school and home.
  • Encouraging a proactive student approach to optimizing academic and Co-curricular outcomes for every student
  • Embedding a diverse system of student leadership and opportunity
  • Building a caring, embracing and supportive family culture at school
  • Instill a sense of attachment to the school by the student
  • Build an effective system of monitoring progress towards holistic developmental objectives
  • Embed a system and forum for instruction supporting a process for evaluating student progress

THE HOUSE SYSTEM

Our Vision:

To create a safe environment for all our students to develop a sense of pride, ownership and achievement. This is achieved through Academic excellence, positive competition and developing internationally-minded student leaders.

Our House System is built on the belief that every student should be able to reach their full potential, these are reflected in our four house mottos (tbc with student input):

  • Motto 1 Green House
  • Motto 1 Red House
  • Motto 1 Blue House
  • Motto 1 Yellow House

There are 4 pastoral houses at EMS Secondary.  These are:

  • Green Dragons
  • Blue Falcons
  • Red Scorpions
  • Yellow Vipers

Our Houses are overseen by Heads of House.  These teachers are experienced teachers with extensive knowledge of our students and school. Our House names reflect our passion and determination to be successful, driven and passionate.  Our House are made up of different year groups and each house includes:

  • 2 x yr 7 House forms
  • 2 x yr 8 House forms
  • 2 x yr 9 House forms
  • 2 x yr 10 House forms
  • 2 x yr 11 House forms
  • 1 x yr 12 House form

Our Pastoral team are responsible for the wellbeing and safety of all our students each day.  Students meet in House registration class each morning to discuss the day ahead, take registration and is an opportunity for the House tutor to discuss any issues that may arise.  House tutors also meet once a week for an Advisory lesson to meet with House group.

House tutors, Head of House and all other staff work closely as small teams to ensure students are happy, supported and known across the school.  The pastoral team also works closely with the Academic staff, Inclusion team, Counselors and senior management to ensure that students make expected progress in all classes. Heads of House also ensure that behaviour, uniforms and attendance are exemplary at all times.

Students are encouraged to represent their Houses on a competitive level and earn points.  The pastoral team tracks each house and recognition of student success is celebrated through a variety of procedures.  These include assemblies, individual recognition, events, trips and rewards.
