Leadership Team

I believe that an effective school leader’s role is to empower, inspire and motivate others. This type of leadership can promote the changes needed to prepare learners for their future achievements. Strong collaboration and trust between parents, students, teachers and leaders is the foundation to help learners achieve high academic standards and help them to become lifelong learners and active citizens.

I believe in being an effective leader by raising expectations for students, staff members and the entire school community based on a common vision which inspires and motivates all the stakeholders. This we can achieve by working in partnership with all and having an open and continuous communication to inform and support student learning.

I believe ensuring continuous professional growth for all by providing continuous professional development based on the best practices which focus on improving learning for every child ensuring that every child has the right to learn and grow and be successful by allowing professionals to work together in order to redesign and change as we work with individuals and make a difference.

Lower Primary Principal

Hi everyone, my name is Joneen Walker, the Lower Primary Principal at EMS Doha.  I was born and breed in New Zealand. In the 80’s I trained as a teacher and had many diverse teaching experiences before coming to Doha.  During my time in New Zealand I was a classroom teacher for 16 years, some of that time in leadership roles, then was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education at the University of Otago, I was in this role for 10 years.

After our two children grew up and left home we decided to leave New Zealand for new adventures and found ourselves in Qatar.  During the first 5 years here I was Assistant Principal at Qatar Academy Doha then moved to EMS in 2016 as Lower Primary Principal.  I love working at EMS and feel privileged to be working in this environment. We have great students, great teachers and a community who care about their students. Lucky me.

Upper Primary Principal

It gives me great pleasure to greet both new and returning parents at EMS Doha’s Primary school campus. My name is Angela Lucy Smith and I am the Upper Primary Principal here at EMS Doha. I have been an educator since 1997, working across Early Years, Primary and Middle school. I have experience teaching leading in schools in the UK, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Mumbai, India. Each experience has helped to open my eyes to the different cultures around our world, and supported me to become the culturally aware leader that you see every day at EMS.

I consider myself incredibly lucky to work with a truly committed leadership team at EMS. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with our dedicated Primary staff to provide creative, stimulating and meaningful learning experiences for all of our students. I look forward to yet another successful year for everyone in our EMS community and hope to see you on campus at one of our events soon.

Upper Primary Assistant Principal

Hello, my name is Lewis Polden, Upper Primary Assistant Principal at EMS Doha. I am UK-born and trained and worked for twenty years in several schools in the London area, three of those years as a Primary Headteacher.

From 2013 until 2016 I worked at Al Khor International School and enjoyed the experience so much that I decided to come back! I am very pleased to be a part of the EMS team and enjoy coming to school every day to work with such fantastic colleagues and students.

Secondary School Principal

My name is Jaco Anderson, the Secondary Principal at EMS Doha. I have worked in a variety of fields and held many positions of leadership; the last 18 years being in education.

I relocated to Qatar from South Africa in 2006, started working at EMS Doha in August 2008, and have never looked back. Most recently, I held the positions of Assistant Principal, Curriculum Coordinator and Examinations Officer (Cambridge and Edexcel).

Today’s students, teachers and families require more from their principals than merely being bossy managers giving orders from the seclusion of their offices. Communities need leaders who understand the direct impact leadership has on school culture. They want leaders who prioritise learning and who lead with the heart. And that is who I am.
